Will I have to wear a mask?

The University has made it compulsory for all students to wear masks inside their buildings this includes when attending events or activities. Wearing masks outside is up to the individual.

I have a medical condition, will I have to wear a mask?

The University are taking a respectful approach to checking of mask wearing. If you cannot wear a mask for medical reasons, you may be asked but not challenged. There is also the option to wear the sunflower lanyard as this tells people without asking that you cannot wear a mask for medical reasons

How many people can I meet up with safely?

The current UK guidance states that it is illegal to have a mass gathering of over 30 people unless the activity is run by a business and they have put in place a suitable and sufficient risk assessment. In the case of new students if you are in a social bubble your social bubble can meet another social bubble totalling up to 30 people. Outside of your social bubble a maximum of 6 individuals from different households or bubbles can meet socially distanced.

Will I have to socially distance?

Yes unless the people you are with are in your social bubble. If they are not and you are attending an activity inside where masks are compulsory you must maintain 1.5m distance from each other. If the activity is outside you must maintain 2m distance from each other if without masks.

Will there be hand sanitiser and hand-washing facilities?

All SU spaces will have hand sanitiser at entrance points and all University buildings have hand-washing facilities.

All activities have been risk assessed and the necessary equipment put in place to make the activity COVID-19 safe. We recommend that students carry personal hand sanitiser and a mask with them at all times, washing hands regularly.

Will there be Covid-19 instructions?

Yes either as part of the event description, in the form of signage at larger events or as part of a briefing by our volunteers at the activity.

All university buildings will have clear COVID-19 signage

Can I attend events with my new friends?

Yes if you are in a social bubble with them or with social distancing in place with up to 6 people from different households.

Will I be able to sit with my friends at events?

If you are in the same social bubble then yes, otherwise you will have to sit socially distanced. If you are attending the Movie Nights make sure the people you want to be near/sit with arrive at the same time so mentors can take you to a seating area safe for you.

Do I need to buy tickets for free events?

Yes please because it helps us to manage capacities, also track, and trace in the case of a COVID-19 outbreak.

If I fall ill can I get a refund for any tickets I have bought that were not free?

Yes please contact FIXR directly for a refund or you can resell your ticket through the platform.

I no longer want to attend my free ticket time slot what do I do?

You can go on the FIXR website and cancel your place. This allows someone else to go instead of you.

What do I do if I fall ill?

Self-isolate straight away for 14 days, inform the SU that you have taken ill and suspect COVID-19, inform anyone you have been in contact with within the last 7 days and they must also self-isolate for 14 days or book a test to shorten this period if the 2 tests are negative for Covid-19.

One of my friends is ill should I still attend the event?

If you have been in contact with someone who is showing COVID-19 symptoms you should not attend. If you have not been in contact with your friend then it is still safe to do so so long as your friend does not.

How do I find out if an event is suitable for me?

Each event has a description and accessibility information, which is available on the events page. You can also speak to your mentor for advice and information.

We have tried to make all our in-person and online events as accessible as possible.

I’m in a wheelchair will I be able to attend events?

All the in-person events have been assessed with accessibility in mind and the majority are wheel chair friendly. If in doubt, check the accessibility form for the event on the event website or contact your mentor.

I’m under 18 can I still attend events?

Yes, the only event you can’t attend is the Crisis club sessions where you have to be over 18.

Is there a quiet or more accessible time I can attend large events?

Yes, at the Discover Nottingham Fair, Diversity Fair and Wellbeing fair we have allocated the first ticket slot especially for those with special requirements.

I’m worried about attending in-person events is there anything for me during Welcome?

Yes! Check out the Welcome Website as we have a host of online only events for you to take part in and meet new people.

I’m self-isolating is there anything for me to take part in during Welcome?

Discover Nottingham Fair/Diversity Fair/Wellbeing Fair additional information

Please purchase a free ticket online for a specific time slot

Each ticket is allocated 30 minutes to enjoy the fair and we ask that you spend no more than 2 minutes at each stall

Please adhere to social distancing at the fair and use the provided hand sanitiser.

Wearing of masks is not compulsory as the event is outside.

Toilets are available inside the Portland Building but remember you must wear a mask on entering the building.

On arrival please use the clearly marked entrance where a mentor will check your ticket.

Please follow the one way system for the fair as this is to support maintaining social distancing.

Please dispose of rubbish responsibly in the bins provided.

Once you have exited the fair please do not re-enter unless there is time left in your allocated slot.

Movie Nights additional Information

Please purchase a free ticket online for your desired film and date

Please arrive 30 minutes before the start of the film to allow mentors to seat you safely

Dress according to the weather, feel free to bring blankets and refreshments but please do not share with others. Portland Coffee Company will have a takeaway service up to 10pm. There will be no purchasable drinks or food at the event.

If heavy rain or high winds are predicted the event will be cancelled.

Please make sure everyone you wish to sit with arrives together socially distanced as required and support the mentors by identifying who in your group is in a social bubble and who is an individual so they can seat you appropriately and safely.

Please follow the one-way system for the film night this is to support maintaining social distancing.

At the end of the film please wait for instructions from a mentor as to when you can leave your seating area.

At the end of the film please take all your rubbish with you

There is a welfare area on the top of the steps under the canopy if you require any assistance.
