Youth Hostel Association

About Us

YHA England and Wales has youth hostels in amazing locations in cities, towns, the countryside and by the sea.  Youth hostels offer a place to stay, a warm and safe welcome, accessible and flexible accommodation, activities and education packages and best of all we are open to everyone, whatever age or where they are from.

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to discover, explore and experience something new and what better way than through volunteering. Our mission is to reach out and enhance the lives of all young people, with the goal of reaching more than one million young people every year by 2020.

Volunteering with YHA is a fantastic way to have fun, learn new skills, meet new people, boost your CV and give something back. We can offer help with travel expenses, discounted meals and even free stays for volunteers taking part in residential opportunities. We have a variety of different volunteering opportunities so you can choose when, where and how you give your time to support us.

About your role

OPTION 1: Summer Camps 2018

Could you help young people have a summer of adventure they will remember for the rest of their lives? Volunteers have a huge impact on the young people attending our camps. We have different roles on offer including:

  • Team Leaders who provide essential pastoral care to campers and encourage them to make the most of the exciting outdoor challenges on offer (plus you can have a go too!).

  • Camp Welfare volunteers help the campers and volunteers make the most of their camp experience by providing emotional support

Whatever your role this is a great way of gaining valuable work experience, completing a college/university placement or your DofE Gold residential or lending us your skills if you are already experienced. You will certainly have a lot of fun and make many new friends – some for life!

OPTION 2: A Working Holiday

Working holidays are a great way to meet new people, gain new skills and give your time to help YHA.

We have a wide range of different types of holiday on offer and these can include gardening, decorating rooms, or giving a much- loved hostel a good spring clean. With holidays in bustling cities, picturesque countryside and stunning coastal locations you can choose your favourite YHA view! Best of all during your free time you can visit the nearby attractions such as a walk along a gorgeous beach, visiting a famous landmark or find a bracing mountainside to refresh your spirits.

We welcome any practical skills you may have however you don’t need to be a DIY whiz or a gardening guru to join in. This volunteering opportunity can provide valuable CV enhancement to help with further education and employment applications or personal development.  Register your interest below, and for more information check out this link: YHA Working Holiday

Commitment is varied depending on the role
