About Us

ClickSilver is a programme facilitated by Business in the Community, a charity encouraging businesses to work together and take action to help tackle some of the key issues facing society. Funded by Capital One, this programme has been set up to help older people learn basic IT skills. Many of us take for granted our ability to use laptops, tablets, the internet and e-mails, and forget that a lot of older people struggle to keep up with technology. This opportunity gives you the chance to share your skills, and help an older person feel more connected.

About your role

Volunteer Mentor – You’ll be buddied up with an older person, and you’ll work with them each week to help them achieve their IT goal. This could be setting up an e-mail address or Facebook account, helping them Skype their old friends, or even just playing games! There's no need to worry - you don’t have to be an IT whizz – remember you’ll get full training, and your knowledge will be vast compared to that of the older person you’ll be paired with!

The programme lasts for 6 weeks, and runs on a Wednesday afternoon from 1pm – 3.30pm in Pope Building on UP campus.

Due to the nature of the course, we ask that you are available for all sessions as well as 1 training session - the older people get very disappointed if they are left without their buddy for a week!
