Hi, I’m Hera, your Black and Minority Ethnic Students (BME) Officer at the University of Nottingham Students’ Union. I’ve been working alongside Sam Hawkins, your Liberation Officer, to plan a series of events for Black History Month. This year at the Students' Union, we have set up a Black History Month Student Planning Committee to better support our Black student societies by empowering them to host a variety of events. In collaboration with this group and the University of Nottingham, we have created an incredible month-long programme, and we're excited to show you what's in store.
Black History Month is an annual celebration aiming to promote and recognise Black contributions to society and help understand Black history in general. This is what the Students’ Union has set out to achieve through the programme that has been created. This year we have 29 events organised by our Black student societies!
We’ll be hosting a wide variety of events ranging from online panels, virtual networking events, movie nights, speaker events and many more. Have a look at the calendar and join us in celebrating Black excellence this month.
