Aim:
As a society, we aim to act as a focal point for Sikh students in Nottingham, as well as the general Sikh community, as we also hold and attend events outside of the university.
Events and Members:
In the past, we have invited external speakers into university, and they have been incredibly kind to give diverse talks. After these talks, we have veechar/discussion, but in addition to this, we also host stand-alone discussion sessions. Throughout the years, this society has been a paramount way for members to meet, and make very good friends with, like-minded people. This means that members are able to have a huge input into how the society is run.
In addition to talks, and our annual Kirtan on Campus and Langar on Campus events, we also hold weekly simran meditation sessions. We also hold and attend socials, such as bowling, trampolining, mini golf, and paintball, as well as entering a football team into the university IMS league. Our football team also enters tournaments external to the university. We are willing to enter a netball team into the IMS league if there is enough interest.
Wider Community:
As a Sikh Society, it is essential to use this platform to contribute to the wider community. Guru Nanak's Mission is a local charity which distributes cooked food to those who require it. Our society has members regularly attending this, so if you would like to get involved, then getting involved with our society would be a great way to do so!
As many of our members may be unfamiliar with Nottingham as a city upon commencing university, we also have group gurdwara trips which help to acquaint members with the local gurdwareh.
Committee
All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.
A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students’ Union.
It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
