Q: How do I sign up?
A: Go to the SU webpage, find the walk listed in the right hand column, click ‘add to basket’, click ‘basket’ at top of page and follow instructions to pay. You can buy multiple tickets if you need; simply enter the number of tickets you need in the box.
You can also purchase tickets at the Students’ Union Reception, B Floor, Portland Building.
It is very important that you provide a next of kin contact number when asked. We need to give this information to the Students’ Union for safety purposes.
Q: How do I get there?
A: We travel by coach and operate a pick up route that covers Beeston, University Park, Dunkirk, Lenton, Jubilee Campus and Wollaton. The pick-up timings are listed here. Please note that timings are approximate, so please be at your stop approximately five minutes before the time shown.
Q: What if I live at Sutton Bonington? Can I still come?
Yes! Unfortunately we are unable to run a pick up from Sutton Bonington, but the Hopper Bus leaving at 9:00 arrives at University Park at 9:25 so you could meet us at East Drive at around 9:35. Just let us know in advance that you're soming from SB and we'll bear it in mind.
On the return journey, we run the same pick up route.
Q: Can I bring a non-student?
A: Yes! Simply purchase more than one ticket and provide a next of kin number when signing up.
Q: Am I allowed to bring my dog?
Unfortunately, Students' Union regulations do not permit us to take dogs on our walks.
Q: I’ve bought a ticket but realised I can’t come, what shall I do?
A: You can cancel your ticket and get a refund by visiting the SU Reception before 12PM on the Friday before. After this, email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will refund you provided we can find someone to take your place.
Q: How long does the day last?
A: We leave Nottingham around 9:40AM and usually arrive back between 6 and 7 PM.
Q: How far and difficult are the walks?
A: There’s a choice! We usually run five walks varying in terms of length and difficulty. On the coach journey, we provide walk sheets with details of each walk on offer so you can choose your walk depending on your ability/stamina.
Q: What do I need to bring with me?
A: We recommend a rucksack of at least 25 litre capacity containing: lunch, plenty of snacks to keep you going, at least 1-1.5 litres of water and medication if necessary.
Please see here for a detailed list of suggested equipment, but in summary: wear lots of thin layers so you can regulate your body temperature, bring waterproofs if you have them and ootwear that you don’t mind getting dirty.
We realise not everyone will have specialist outdoor clothing so we offer walks that you can do in jeans and trainers. However, if you (hopefully!) decide you like walking, it’s well worth investing in some kit because it’ll give you a greater choice of walks, and it’s more likely you’ll stay dry!
