The OutLAW project focus is on underprivileged areas and giving them a taste of studying law at university and legal careers. Volunteers deliver a range of workshops ranging from debating to mock trials to preparing for the university application process.
Two years ago, OutLAW started an inter-school mock trial initiative, expanded the range of workshops offered and worked closely with the Law School's widening participation team. This is a project that is constantly expanding and growing, which is part of the reason so many students volunteer.
Our volunteers have loved being able to give back to students who are preparing for the University application process and have gained confidence in their public speaking, team management and ability to be clear and concise.
Safeguarding training is now compulsory in order to attend both OutLAW and Aspire trips and events, but free safeguarding sessions are provided reguarly throughout term and certificates are provided to all participating volunteers at the end.
