About Mountaineering Club
The Mountaineering Club
Welcome to The Univeristy of Nottingham's Mountaineering Club!
By definition, mountaineering is the sport of attaining, or attempting to attain, the high points in mountainous regions, often simply for the pleasure of doing so; although the sport does have a considerable number of both pyhsical and mental health benefits.
The Mountaineering Club was formed around a decade ago following the merger of two clubs, The Explorers the Munro Pineapple Society.
Throughout the year we run regular weekend trips across UK mountain regions including Snowdonia, the Lake Distirct, and the vast Scottish Highlands. We specialise in hiking and scrambling, and in winter conditions, more techincal mountaineering and climbing.
We are an active student Club, running weekly socials, welcoming both undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University. Alumni members are always welcome back and they often join us on weekend trips, most notably on our Annual Meet in the spring.
Due to current circumstances, during the autumn semester of the 20/21 academic year, the majority of our activity will be online and we will unfortunately will not be able to get away overnight this term. However, we plan to hold some 'taster' day trips to the Peak District, sign ups for which will be online.
By becoming a member of the Mountaineering Club you will recieve all of our Club email updates. Membership will also enable you to sign up to our trips, in addition to British Mountaineering Council insurance cover, and outdoor shop discounts. Information will also be circulated via our social media pages.

Committee
All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.
A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students’ Union.
It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
