About Matchmaking Society
We are a National Award winning society with the aim to find you love.
There’s over 30,000 students at the University of Nottingham. Such a large pool of students almost guarantees that there’ll be at least one person with whom you’re romantically compatible, but sifting through 29,999 people to try and discover the perfect 1 is a huge task to undertake all by yourself. Ideally, you'd have an entire team of devoted individuals helping you with that search. Luckily, Matchmaking Society is exactly that! We are the cupids of your uni experience...
Put simply, we bring together people who'd really get along but would otherwise never have an excuse to meet in the first place. Allow us to introduce you to your person at UoN!

Frequently Asked Questions:
This should cover any questions you may have about our society! If it doesn’t, drop us an Instagram DM or Facebook Message @matchmakinguon and we’ll get back to you with an answer.
Q: How does your dating system work?
A: In three steps:
1) Members pay the membership fee and will shortly receive an email with the dating form- this will likely be in the fortnightly newsletter we send to all members.
2) Our committee use their form to see if they’re romantically compatible with somebody else in the Society. If they are, we let both members know they have a potential date via their email. If both confirm they’re interested, and agree on the Society’s proposed time and location of the date, the date takes place. (Most dates will happen at The Lacehouse in town) These will be blind dates.
3) After the date, members are asked to fill out the feedback form stating if they wish to see the person again, date someone else, or no longer date.
Q: Can I hear success stories/from people who have used the Society before?
A: Of course, here are some feedback quotes from our members who have experienced our service so far:
"I don't think you could have made a better match"
"In my eyes there is nothing which could be improved... The work done was perfect... A fantastic experience, I wouldn't expect something like this at university"
"I can honestly say some real thought went into it and I am really impressed with how much I feel I was compatible with my date... I'm so glad I joined and you guys are doing some great work"
"The matchmaking society put a lot of effort into finding your match, they are friendly and welcoming and it’s a really good way of meeting new people – even just new friends!"
Q: Can all sexual orientations use the Society?
A: Put simply, yes. We ask you to specify your gender identity and which gender(s) you’re interested in and match based on your responses.
Q: How many dating members do you have in your system?
A: As of our first term, we are approaching 300 dating members (and rising) looking to be matched and every kind of person is in that mix; from cheerleaders to quiz team members to stage performers and so on. So, there's definitely a good chance there's someone you'll like in there!
Q: How does the Society ensure the blind dates are safe?
A: All members are UoN students meaning you can’t be catfished. All blind dates take place in a public venue with Committee members present. These precautions mean that, in the unlikely event your Date’s behaviour was inappropriate, you could easily get the attention of others and have the situation rectified safely. Our members' feedback regularly praises us for how safe and well-organised the dates are.
Q: Has my Dating Form been accepted and added to your system?
A: If you have correctly submitted your form and paid your membership, your form would have been added to our system. If you would like confirmation of this, drop us an email or DM us on Instagram @matchmakinguon. However, please be aware that we have a large membership and a small committee.
Q: Why not just use Tinder or some other dating service?
A: By being exclusive to UoN SU Members, we believe our service is much more advantageous than the likes of Tinder. You will only ever be matched with UoN students; this eliminates the risk of catfishing and ensures you have at least one thing in common. We also match with personality and physicality meaning a higher chance of compatibility. And who doesn’t love the thrill of a blind date!
Q: If my date doesn’t work out, can I go on another?
A: Yes, just let us know via the feedback form you will receive after your date. We will continue to keep matching you until you ask us not to.
Q: Can I join your Committee?
A: We expand our Committee as our Dating membership increases. If you want to get involved, email us and we'll let you know how/when you can get involved with the team!
All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.
A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students’ Union.
It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
