About Kendo
Welcome to Kendo!
Kendo means the 'The Way of the Sword' which descends from the swordsmanship of the samurai. Combining martial arts with contact-sport, Kendo is a great way to gain fitness, let off steam and build character.
Kendo uses full contact strikes and thrusts, made possible by the wearing of protective armour (Bogu) and using a bamboo sword (Shinai) to attack.
Please join our facebook group for the latest updates on training and taster sessions, and info on how we are managing the risks of Coronavirus in sessions.
Membership costs £20 (& DRSV membership), plus British Kendo Association (BKA) membership, which costs £34.50 for the year for students. This will enable you to complete gradings, attend competitions and seminars, and attend other BKA affiliated dojos. A three month trial period of BKA membership can be purchased for £10. To buy BKA membership, please speak to a comittee member.
Committee
All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.
A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students’ Union.
It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
