About Karate
Welcome to the University of Nottingham Karate club!
Whether you are experienced in karate or have never set foot in a dojo we have something to offer! Our club caters for karateka from all styles and backgrounds, offering members the opportunity to compete, grade and socialise at university.
In 2020 we were crowned BUCS champions however, although we are successful you do not have to be an experienced athlete to compete for the club. Our squad varies from national team athletes to novices, who can compete in novice/intermediate sections. We compete at BUCS (British University Championships), Varsity and externally.
At various sessions through the week we cover Kihon, Kata and Kumite both for competition and gradings. At these sessions everyone is pushed by our incredible coaches and captains, making sure members get the most out of training.
Club members are very social in and outside of training creating a culture where members support each other. This family-like attitude creates an environment where members can escape the stresses of university life during training.
Training Times:
Tuesday: 8pm-10pm (Competition Kata & Kumite)
Wednesday: 8-9 pm (Engage)
Thursday: 8-10 pm (Grading & Kata)
Saturday: 2-4 pm (Captain-Led Kata & Kumite)
Sunday: 7:30pm-9:30pm (Competition Kata & Kumite)
All training sessions are held at the David Ross Sports Village Dojo, University Park Campus.
Committee
All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.
A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students’ Union.
It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
