23 September 2020
Hi all, unfortunately, due to a government announcement yesterday, we have had to postpone our beginners course until we can work out whether we are allowed to run this or not, please bear with us. Please keep an eye out here and on our Welcome Facebook Group for more information. Alternatively, come and see us at the Sport Welcome Fair on Sunday 04th October (pre-booking only, I'm afraid) and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have!
21 September 2020
Hi everyone! Welcome to all new students at UoN for the year and welcome back to returners. Thanks if you joined us at our Welcome Fair on Saturday, it was really nice to meet some of you. This post is to answer some questions about Beginners Course and more :)
Are you running tasters this year?
Unfortunately, we may not be running tasters this year due to staff shortages at DRSV. Many other sports have had theirs cancelled also. Its a real shame, and we are really sorry about this.
What is a Beginners Course?
If you have never done archery, you are required to do a Beginners Course. We will teach you how to shoot safely and other skills like equipment maintenance. This is a one off course and will allow you to shoot at any archery club. It is expected you will never have to do one again!
Do you run one? When is it?
Yes we do! At the beginning of each academic year. This year it will start w/c 5th October and run for two consecutive weeks. We will have two groups: Wednesday (8-10pm, 7th October and 14th October) and Saturday (9.30-11.30am, 10th October and 17th October).
Where is it?
The course will be indoors in the Salle at the David Ross Sports Village.
How much is it? Is it the same as club membership? Do I need a sports membership?
The cost is £25 and covers all equipment borrowing for the sessions. This is a separate product to the club membership, so please do not purchase club membership until after the course.
Yes, you will need a UoN Sports membership in order to access the facilities. More info to purchase can be found here: https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/…/membership/studentsportsmemb…
There are different rates for new students and returning students, so please make sure to read the information carefully!
Is there a maximum number of places?
Yes. Due to COVID, we have a cap in our room capacity so we have a maximum number of places in order to make sure that everyone is safe. This year it is 50 places, 25 on each Wednesday and Saturday.
What if I miss out? Will there be another course?
If after the initial course there is a high level of interest, and we have the resources to run another one, this is a potential avenue we would like to explore! More info will be given out in due course.
What measures are in place because of COVID?
We understand that it can be daunting to participate in sports and societies at the moment because of COVID. We have made sure that all necessary protocols are in place to keep our members and prospective members safe. This includes sanitising all the equipment before and after use, social distancing and mask wearing. More info about the general guidelines at DRSV can be found here: https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/…/co…/coronavirus-covid-19.aspx
Is the course all in person?
Because of COVID, some elements of the course will be virtual. This includes etiquette. All shooting sessions will be in person. All parts of the course, virtual or not must be completed to pass the course. More info will be communicated on the start date.
When can I buy the course?
This is now live! Please purchase either product, if you select Wednesdays, you'll be allocated to do your shooting sessions on Wednesdays and it's the same for Saturdays. We would also recommend joining our interest list (available on our SU website).
What happens after the course? Can I buy membership?
After the course, you can purchase a full club membership (£30) from our website! This covers insurance, AGB membership, and equipment borrowing.
What if I have done a Beginners Course already/am an experienced archer?
An experienced archer is termed as someone who has 1 year+ experience shooting and done a Beginners Course. If you think this fits you, you will be invited to come to an intro session. Here we will check that you are safe to shoot in a non pressure environment! If you are safe, you can purchase club membership. If not, we will invite you to join a Beginners Course. This will take place w/c 28th September. More info to come.
If you have any more questions, comment down below or email us at nuarchers@gmail.com :)
Thanks! :D
Committee
All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.
A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students’ Union.
It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
