About Advocate Magazine
Advocate Magazine is the University of Nottingham School of Law’s magazine, run by students for students. We provide a platform for thought-provoking journalism to passionate students who believe in the importance of journalism with integrity. Taking unique perspectives to the stories that shape our lives, we publish a wide range of articles from legal, domestic and current affairs to careers and employability. Our aim as a society is to provide others with the knowledge and analysis to help them understand the world through high-quality journalism. The skills our members develop enable them to graduate from university as the open-minded, analytical leaders of the future.
Throughout the year we publish two themed editions of our magazine: the winter edition and the summer edition. In addition, we publish extra articles to our online website throughout the year. In March 2020, we held the first launch event for our 2019-2020 Winter Edition, “Trials and Tribulations”, as part of the university’s Sustainability Week. We had the pleasure to host Dr Edward Goodwin, Co-Director of Undergraduate Studies at the School of Law, as our keynote speaker. The event also featured a panel discussion of some our articles, a presentation by Scholars at Risk Nottingham on the campaign for Niloufar Bayani’s release, and we gave out awards for the best articles of the year. Following the event’s success, this is to become the pinnacle of our events cycle going forward.
Committee
All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.
A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students’ Union.
It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
