About Poetry and Spoken Word
WELCOME TO UoN's POETRY & SPOKEN WORD SOCIETY 2020/21
We are a student poetry community offering writing workshops and performance, publishing, and competition opportunities.
You don't need any experience to join, just £4 for the annual membership (we have no hidden or extra costs!)
We are excited to return to in person activity as soon as possible but in the meantime we'll be running weekly writing workshops on Microsoft Teams every Tuesday during term time 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM at the following link:
Feel free to join our TryIt sessions on the 22nd and 29th September, no membership needed!
This year we'll be continuing our established twice-a-term student open mic night CLICKBAIT. This is a great opportunity for anyone, student or not, to share their poetry in Nottingham's renowned spoken word scene. Like the workshops we hope to do this in-person at some point but we'll start online for now. Look out for updates on our Facebook page!
For the last three years we have published a members anthology called Lower Ground Eighteen, named after our usual workshop room in Trent building. Read our 2020 anthology here:

All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.
A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students’ Union.
It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
